Staying healthy after 50 does not have to be time-consuming. Whether you don’t have a planned workout or a meal ready to go, you need to prioritize taking care of yourself. Here are 5 tips that will help you to stay healthy.

Find ways to move every day.

It is that simple, you need to find ways to keep your body moving throughout the day! Whether you walk 5,000 steps a day or just park the car in the farthest space possible, remember that a body in motion tends to stay in motion! To make things easier try to use one of the many available fitness apps on your watch or phone. For example, try apps that will track your steps and exercise progress while also giving you reminders throughout the day to get up and get moving. Another example would be to mix entertainment with a specific activity. For example, nowadays podcasts are more popular than ever! Try to find a podcast you love and listen to it only while going for a walk. It will help you to add miles to your walking totals among other health benefits.

Find an activity that you like.

Finding an activity you like doing is one of the easiest ways to guarantee that you stay active into your 50s and 60s. A lot of people feel the need to be physically active by engaging in harsh routines and time-consuming exercises that are difficult to perform and make you feel miserable. Unless the activity you are doing is fun, this type of approach is not sustainable for most people.

Not sure what you can do to stay active? Try to think about your hobbies or new things you always wanted to try out. Maybe you have a couple of people within your social circle who are living an active lifestyle. Try to partner up with a friend, it will help you to get up and going. Additionally, you'll have someone to chat with while working out.

Make time for yourself.

Work, family, finances, social obligations… some days the to-do list seems never-ending. It’s essential to not lose yourself in the midst of the daily rush but to be in touch with yourself. One way to do so is by prioritizing some time for yourself. Lunch with a friend or a spa day to get away from the daily routine. Even a few minutes of quiet meditation can make a big difference in an otherwise hectic day. It’s a bonus if you can include a healthy habit, like a yoga class or a walk. Remind yourself why you work so hard every day. Be your biggest advocate, and sometimes saying no to others but yes to yourself can lead to a healthier and happier version of you.
